Update No.13 AWU MEMBERS MAKING HEADWAY IN EB7

29 | 10 |2008

After great pressure applied by AWU members throughout the state, the Premier has agreed to protect the current contracting in and out provisions that are in EB6.

The Government have also agreed to maintain the current filling of vacancy provisions from EB6.

The requirement that AWU members agree to any roster changes has also been protected because of the campaign that AWU members have participated in.

AWU Delegates will meet Thursday 30th October and Friday 31st October to consider the proposed offer provided next week.

This will include the current wages offer of 4.5% or $34 (whichever is greater) in the first year, and 4% or $34 (whichever is greater) in year 2 and year 3.

No final agreement will be made until AWU members and delegates have an opportunity to consider what is on the table.

It is recommended, that as a sign of good faith, members suspend any current work bans whilst AWU delegates have a chance to consider the government’s offer.

After the conference, the full details of the offer will be provided to all members.

While members of other unions have supported the campaign, it has been the action taken by AWU members that has had the greatest impact across the state.

The fact that the government has agreed to maintain the current provisions on contracting out, roster changes and filling of vacancies is a great win for AWU members. All delegates and members who have been active and new members who have joined the AWU in this campaign can be proud of what they’ve achieved by sticking together.

There can be no doubt that it is the hard work of AWU members that has achieved this result for all Queensland Health employees.
