Update No.11 Q Health Hit a New Low: School Children Used As Slave Labour To Break Work Bans
17 | 10 |2008
After the disappointing conduct of Queensland Health (QH) during the negotiations for the new collective bargaining agreement, QH have hit a new low by using school children from Emmanuel College on the Gold Coast to break work bans at the Robina Hospital and Southport campus of the Gold Coast Hospital.
The use of children by placing them in a potentially dangerous situation shows a complete lack of responsibility.
Whoever is responsible for this situation needs to be disciplined using the full force of the law. This goes for the person responsible from the school for sending these kids in to do work and also the person from QH who is responsible for organising this shameful activity.
The Department of Child Safety will also be informed of what has occurred.
Once more information is gained members will be informed of the outcome.
Now, more than ever, we need to ensure that all workers stand united in the AWU. Operational Staff in QH need not be under any illusion of the new lows QH are prepared to stoop to avoid providing members with fair wage increases.
