Update No.3 AWU Delegates Increase Claim to 10%

15 | 07 |2008

AWU members in QHealth have increased their wage claim to 10% or $80 per week.

As negotiations have not yet commenced in this year’s enterprise bargaining campaign, AWU members took the opportunity to amend their wage claim to more accurately reflect their value to the health system.

This is a big step up from the original claim of 6%, and even bigger from the government’s offer of only 3.25%. If operational workers in QHealth are serious about achieving a reasonable outcome they need to stick together in the AWU.

AWU members need to be loud and active during this campaign. We need to get the message out to the general public that having the best health system means more than just doctors and nurses. It also means having well trained and experienced operational staff keeping our hospitals clean and running smoothly.

So make sure that you let everybody know that “Health can’t operate without us”

It is important that we get the message out that the only way to protect our jobs is for everyone to become part of the Australian Workers’ Union so that we are Union Strong.
