about the AWU
The AWU is about people

It's ordinary working Queenslanders who have made the AWU a big and great union. And it's our rank and file members who are responsible for the Union's terrific achievements and who will shape the AWU's big future.
Unions are about people. There's something inspiring about a person whose willing to stand with his or her work mates to secure a fairer and better deal.
The AWU Queensland is not a separate 'corporate' entity, the operation, vitality and success of the Union relies on the active involvement of our members. Becoming a Workplace Rep is just one way to get involved in your Union. However, whether you participate in a meeting at your work site, encourage a new staff member to join the AWU, or participate in a campaign, you are the Union.
For more than 150 years, the AWU has been fortunate to have a membership that is passionate about working together, because we believe that there is strength in Unity. Some big Queensland characters who been members of the AWU. But more importantly, the strength of the AWU comes from the 50,000 plus Queenslanders who are Union members.
In the coming months we will profile some of the members of the Union who, perhaps largely in a previously unsung way, have made a difference to other AWU members. If you would like to suggest someone who should be profiled on this page, please send an email with the details to Erica.Martin@awu.org.au.
